How to Root Your HTC Sprint EVO 4G!

First things first of course, the first thing you'll want to do is to root the HTC EVO, if you're into customizing and going for better, rather than settling with what's good enough.

A big reason as to why I rooted the EVO right away is because I found out about this custom Chinese ROM called MIUI based on Android 2.2 Froyo. It has been ported by XDA developers to work on the EVO. Check out the video:

Anyways, they are on a more mature version as of today.

I'm on version 1.2.11 with no problems so far.

I'll expound upon MIUI later, but here's how I rooted - these are not my own instructions, I got them from http://www.unrevoked.com:

Read this carefully and you'll have success!

How to root:
read this page first and download the zip file in the first line of the page. It's android-usb-driver.zip or something like that. I'm assuming you're using a windows machine.

Read the page all the way through. Here's the youtube walkthrough of it. I recommend you watch it:

Make sure before you start that you have 2 things:
1. your EVO must be at least 90% charged before you start to avoid bricking if you run into a mistake
2. Your EVO should be set to have 'USB Debugging on' at Settings > Development Settings > USB Debugging

Good luck. If you want to put on the MIUI rom, you can download it here.
