From the Sprint Hero to the EVO!

The fact is, although I had hacked away as much as I could on the Sprint Hero, I remained unsatisfied. I applied the Firerat partition, put on CM 6.1, and overclocked, but the Hero was still underpowered. I was getting freezes and lags, and I had to face the facts.

My Hero felt like a 386 SX (not a DX even!)

I originally thought I would hold out for the HTC Knight, which eventually came out on Sprint as a HTC Shift EVO. But that phone made no sense to me in that it didn't have a front facing camera, although it has 4G. Also, I decided that I didn't like the moving parts and didn't want the keyboard.

So I went on Craigslist and then bought a EVO (didn't want to extend my contract). I originally thought that 4.3" for the screen size was too large, but because the EVO is relatively slim, it fits in my pocket not more noticeably than my Hero.

The first thing I did was root it, and then slap on the MIUI rom. I'll write more about that in another post. But anyways, I went back to my old Hero and tried to play around on it. I could not believe how slow and small it was.

I urge you all Hero owners, just go upgrade to the EVO, you will not regret it!

I thought I would hold out for a dual-core phone, but this EVO is plenty fast enough!

  2. @ Tech Temple - Yeah, I got tired of trying to get usable speed out of the Hero. You should upgrade to the EVO too, it's well worth it! I thought it would be too big, but I find it just about right. I think the ideal size for a phone is 4" display, but 4.3" is find. When I tried to go back and use my Hero, I was shocked at how much it lags compared to the EVO and noticed the small worse display.

  3. I would upgrade if Sprint wouldn't have changed it's Premiere rules :-( And I agree with you 100%, 3.7" - 4" is the sweet spot. Hopefully these new Sprint phones are somewhere around there.
