Aren't You Glad You Got the EVO and not the Samsung Epic?

The Samsung Epic 4G is a good phone in terms of hardware specs.  I thought awhile back that I would upgrade to that phone, but I was hesitant b/c there is so much more XDA support for HTC phones than Samsung.   Turns out I was right.

The Epic was promised a 2.2 upgrade by Samsung upon its release, but after 10+ months, it still was stuck on 2.1, while 2.2 was officially released by HTC/Sprint for the EVO back in Aug 2010.  Desperate users of course, turned to XDA to root their phone and get a custom 2.2 ROM for the Epic.

In the meantime, users complained about GPS wonkiness in the Epic and have been impatiently waiting for 2.2 Froyo.  Some have even conspired that Samsung is not releasing 2.2 on purpose to spur its new phone sales with new Android versions.

Yesterday, Samsung/Sprint FINALLY released the 2.2 official version yesterday, only to have it pulled today due to problems.  (Oddly, it's still available on the Samsung site)

I'd say lesson learned is stick to a company that is more committed to upgrades and support like HTC.  Samsung is dubious.
