I love my EVO with the Deck Android Gingerbread ROM. (I'm currently on an older version rc9 pre 1.0, using the Tiamat 3.3.7 Kernel. I tried the latest, and for some reason, it doesn't work well with my phone. I see less battery life, around 8 hours. On the rc9, I'm getting about 12 to 14 on similar usage)
Anyways, I'm neither an Android fanboy or an Apple fanboy. I've been looking closer at the iPhone after iOS5 was announced. I have to say I'm very impressed with iOS5.
So this got me thinking about the whole iPhone vs Android. Which would I prefer if the iPhone actually comes out on Sprint? If it comes out on Sprint, today I would have to say I would choose an iPhone. It just has more features, and requires less maintenance.
Everyone who has owned an Android phone so far knows that in order to get the most out of it, it has to be rooted, and slapped on with a custom ROM to make battery life and overall usage manageable. Also, if you ever played with an iPhone, the screen animations are buttery smooth.
Even in the best custom ROM, you still see stutters once in awhile in Android. Why? It's b/c Android is not yet optimized to use the GPU. Here's the report with Google code. It probably won't be ready until Ice Cream Sandwich at best. Star it while you are there in the issue report by the way.
I know what I would lose is the great integration of gmail and google calendar. But someone with an iPhone told me that they integrate very well now. Also, I know that I will lose Google Navigation, but I'm hoping that Sprint will install its Telenav app for free with no additional monthly charge, as it has before for Android phones.
What's your opinion? If Sprint comes out with an iPhone with iOS5, would you switch? Vote on the right on this blog.
